The rain stayed away and we played cricket - Waking to blue skies on Saturday was something of a rare feeling for the Bushmen collective and didn’t we make the most of it!
1st grade with their proverbials on the line, teetering on the verge of a wasted season in 4th place rose to the occasion and knocked off Alberton in 1st place. Alberton left no stone unturned in their atempts to shaft us with 2 new players, one from Brisbane 1st Grade Cricket lining up for their 1st game but they were no match for the MNDCC.
The evergreen Wayne Phillips with 38 and 2 for 15 proved a major thorn for the Alberts with great support from old man river Michael Greenhatch 4 for 10 from 5 overs and Doogs picked up the first 3 wickets to set us on our way. Surfers this week to ensure finals action and hopefully a home semi. Good luck men.
What can we say about the Magoos, after losing over 2000 games of experience from the winning grand final side last year a mid season position was on the cards, a side full of 15 - 18 year olds learning their craft but they have well and truly exceeded expectations sitting 3rd, 2 games clear of 4th and an outside chance of gaining 2nd spot this round.
An even team performance with the bat and some tight bowling lead by big bad Dan the man Matheson 4 for 16 & Scooba Steve 3 for 22 restricted Alberton to 87.
3rd grade, the Blue Baggers are sitting in 4th place by the skin of their teeth after a great win V Coomera, Bryce Stimpson back in form with 53, Luke Bishop 36, 24 from young Nick Gentle and a slashing 9 ball 22 not out from Hurricane Shepherd helped the guys rack up 196 as they dismissed Coomera for 129 with Luke Bishop grabbing 4 poles.
The red team stumbled some what getting back doored outright but it’s a fine line between pleasure and pain, we’ve done it once and we will do it again as the song goes - just have a big win this game boys and then we can enjoy a home final! Sitting in 2nd spot and playing Coomera this week at home.
The 4ths went down to top side Broady and are sitting in 8th place with one round to go, need to win this week to play in the ¼ finals so our destiny is in our own hands. Some good signs last week so we win and then who knows 1st V 8th its happened before, good luck lads.
5th grade blue had a win over Palmy Marron, always good and 5th grade red had a loss to Palmy Gold, always bad. 60 runs to Troy Crompton, where on earth did that come from? And 3 wickets for 6 runs from 7 overs! Pee in cup please Troy whats going on there.
The red team (billy lids) went down but as usual they gave it their all using 10 bowlers for the match, outstanding Aldo well done and the 3 Amigos or Goldmans, taking all 4 wickets to fall.
The smell of finals is in the air, Go the Bushmen!
