What a great start in season 2009/10 for the mighty Bushmen. Wins a plenty and some fantastic team and individual performances. Highlights for Round 1 (firsts, seconds and thirds) and Rounds 1 and 2 (fourths and fifths)
ONES
Congratulations to Dylan, Mitch and Sam making their first grade debuts.
After winning the toss and batting the boys made steady progress, but lost wickets at regular intervals culminating in the run out of the captain/coach at 6 for 146 (not a good career move Sammy!!!!)
Wayne (grandfather) Phillips and Sam (baby face) Hain righted the ship with a 70 run alliance, which saw the boys bat out their overs for a competitive 8/258.
Lack of rain and such a short preparation time has not allowed Shorty to have the pitch in tip top condition, which enhanced the batting effort. Further evidence of the quality of the Bushmen’s innings was the effort put in by CHI in reply.
Dismissed for a paltry 81, CHI were mesmerised by Josh (the magician) Butler who thoroughly deserved his figures of 7 for 27. Ably supported by the ageless Scuba Steve and the rest of the pace attack, our most expensive bowler averaged less than 2 runs per over.
The fielding provided great support and with an ounce of luck, the season could have started with an outright victory.
Great start boys!!!!!!!!!
REGGIES
The boys cruised to an away win on the back of tight bowling the first week, which restricted the opposition to 161 at just on 3 an over. Skipper Doogs and Jackson “half a twinny” Smith were the stand outs with 3 wickets a piece.
Bryce (Beefy) Stimpson making the most of a late inclusion, batted through the innings for a dogged 62 not out, supported by dashing innings of Claye (62), Gibbo (36) and Doogs 27. Declaring at 5/221, the boys again had CHI in trouble in the second dig when time ran out.
Top effort that!!!!!!!!
THREES - FERGY’S FANATICS
Not the start Fergy would have been looking for when traveling to Rugby Park a fortnight ago.
After dismissing Helensvale for 182, the boys should have been confident of a win bearing in mind the depth of batting talent in the team. Unfortunately they fell 41 runs shortly, disappointingly leaving 17 batting overs unused.
Good contributions coming from Sam Shepherd (4/39), Aaron Alston (3/25) and Matt Robbins (2/23) with the ball and Steve Lye (30) with the bat.
THREES - WHITCHURCH’S WARRIORS
Another team with a fast start to the season.
Bearing in mind that one of the opposition scored a century, it was a good all round effort to dismiss Surfers Paradise on day 1 for 208. Fourteen year old spinners Matt Shepherd and Jack Bristow, making their 3rd grade debuts shared 5 wickets between them, well supported by Nick Gentle (15) with 2 wickets.
The Bushmen innings was dominated by the opening partnership of Ryan (Chewbacca) King scoring 90 and Faser (Hans Solo) Gregor scoring 78. Unfortunate not to each score centuries, Chewy and Hans enabled the team to declare 5 down and push hard for an outright, taking 9 second innings wickets. The old man of the bowling attack at 17, Paul (Muffin) Aitkenson stood up in the second dig taking 5, with his opening partner Nick Gentle again chipping in with 2 wickets.
Well done boys!!!!!!!!!!
