Clyde was born on 7th February 1944. Clyde first started playing for the Club as a fill in when only 10 or 11 whenever the team was short (only had the one team in those days). After a season with West Burleigh B Grade in 1958/59 because Mudgeeraba only had an A Grade side, he played his first full season with the Club was 1959/60. Clyde went on and played A Grade for the Club for 32 years, for approximately 22 of them as Captain. His last match for the Club was in the 1995/96 season.
Clyde’s representative career was also a phenomenal one – he represented the Gold Coast in the Webb Shield from the 1960/61 Season until the 1986/87 Season. As well as for the Gold Coast Clyde also played representative cricket for the South Coast Zone Team, South Queensland Country, Queensland Country and the Queensland Colts Under 23 Team.
As well as playing for the Club Clyde was also a Selector and has also held the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer positions within the Club. Also the Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and Interim President positions for the Gold Coast Association – of which he is also a Life Member – and a Delegate to and Secretary for the Zone.
Clyde’s most memorable times with the Club were Captaining the side to an A Grade Premiership, being Captain when Greg Markwell took all 10 Wickets in the A Grade Grand Final (see History Section) and playing in the same team as his three sons.
Clyde’s worst blunder – Captaining the team against C.H.I. who were dismissed cheaply. After passing C.H.I.’s score and deciding to go for an outright victory Clyde wrote out the full batting list. Imagine his red face when it was realised that Mudgeeraba had fielded 12 men for the entire C.H.I. innings! Consequently he had to forfeit the match.
Clyde was made a Life Member in 1980.
Sadly Clyde passed away in 2003.
